Curl Care in Winter

If your hair tends to be dry, winter can be a real challenge: heated indoor air, wind, damp air and very cold temperatures can dry your hair out even more and affect your curl definition.
Have you ever noticed on holiday that your hair just seemed different? Quite possible, because besides hormones, care and diet, the climate also affects your curls.
You can't really change the weather. What you can change is your hair routine, and you can adapt it to your new surroundings.
Here are a few tips that are especially valuable for your hair in winter.
A LITTLE MORE
Adapt your routine to your hair's growing need for moisture, for example by using a little more leave-in than usual. A hair oil before washing (pre-poo) protects against moisture loss while you wash. If you apply it after the leave-in , it seals in moisture and adds extra protection.
A LITTLE LESS FRICTION
The tools you use on your hair also matter, so you don't damage already stressed hair even more. We recommend satin scrunchies and a satin pillowcase, a T-shirt or microfibre towel for drying, and blow drying on the lowest possible heat.
DEEP CONDITIONING
Deep conditioning simply works wonders. And yes, it can be annoying to set aside 15 to 30 minutes for a hair mask or conditioner to work. But winter is a time when many of us slow down anyway and there's generally less going on. Maybe you can fit it into your next cosy afternoon on the couch with a book and tea?
PROTECTIVE STYLES
Protect your hair from the elements by wearing it in protective styles more often (for example braids, twists, a bun or bantu knots). Satin scarves or headwraps are also a stylish way to give your hair a break. We especially love the beautiful headwraps from „Nolema“, which are very easy to use and can also protect your hair while you sleep.
CO-WASH
In winter you can skip shampoo now and then and wash your hair with conditioner instead (co-wash). We only recommend this if your scalp and hair don't tend to get product buildup, or if you generally only use natural products that don't build up in your hair.
