Tell Us Your Curl Story - My Curl Story - Patricia

We put out a call on Instagram in December 2020 and asked you for your personal curl story. We want to share those with you here on our blog. Here's Patricia's story.
How do you best start your own story?
I, the child of a Cameroonian mom and a German dad, am the embodiment of an African love story. Best of both worlds.
When it came to hair, though, the Cameroonian tone dominated at home, and that meant:
Does it hurt? Well, then just relax it.
So we went from an Afro mane and braids in childhood to a "European" semi-stiff, smooth-combed half-do.
I actually found my way back to myself at 18/19, when I was finally out and about in bigger cities.
That's when my year of transitioning started (spoiler: no big chop), and now I've actually arrived at a really good place. It helped me a lot to meet many other Africans and mixed girls.
There's just something special about running into other naturals.
All I can say: from here on out (and for a few years now), no other way for me!
Patricia
